THE ORDER OF WORSHIP

THE PRELUDE

THE RAINBOW RINGERS “Enter Into His Courts with Praise”

A WARM WELCOME TO YOU (We are glad that you are here. Please assist us by
signing the Attendance Pad this morning and wearing your name tag. Thank you.)

*THE CALL TO WORSHIP (responsive) The Liturgist

God’s promise was in these words: “And it shall come to pass afterward, that
I will pour out my spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
Your old people shall dream dreams, and your young shall see visions.” (Joel)
WE ARE READY, GOD. SEND YOUR SPIRIT ON US NOW, SINCE IT
IS YOUR SPIRIT OF PEACE, LOVE AND JOY. SO LET IT MOVE US
IN OUR SAYING AND DOING, IN OUR DREAMING AND VISIONS,
TO THE GLORY OF YOUR KINGDOM. AMEN.

*THE OPENING HYMN “Come, Thou Almighty King” Hymn #61

*A LITANY FOR PENTECOST (responsive)

Come, let us confess it: we need judgment, and we need to be convinced we
are often wrong.
COME, HOLY SPIRIT, SHOW US OUR SIN AND PROMPT OUR
REPENTANCE.
We need counsel, we need direction on God’s ways.
COME, HOLY SPIRIT, BE OUR COUNSELOR AND SET US STRAIGHT.
We need comforting, we need reassurance when the going gets rough.
COME, HOLY SPIRIT, BE OUR COMFORTER, REMINDING US OF
THE PROMISES THAT LAST.
We need new life, we need to be shaken out of our ruts.
COME, HOLY SPIRIT, ENLIVEN US AND STIR US TO EXCITED
AFFIRMATIONS.
We need inspiration, something more than ordinary insight.
COME, HOLY SPIRIT, FIRE OUR IMAGINATION AND INTELLI-
GENCE, SO WE CAN SEE THE TRUTH, AND DO IT!

THE BLESSING OF THE WATER

Gracious God, we thank you that in every age You have made water a sign of
your presence. In the beginning, your Spirit brooded over the waters and they
became the source of all creation. You led your people Israel through the
waters of the Red Sea to their new land of freedom and hope. In the waters
of the Jordan, your Son was baptized by John and anointed with your Spirit
for his ministry. May this same Spirit bless the water we use today, that it
may be a fountain of a new creation. This is the water through which we ex-
perience healing and wholeness, promising us that a time will come when all
is good….Come, Spirit, come and be a new reality. Renew us as we acknow-
ledge that You are the victory, You are the grace, and You are the reason
this gathering is a holy place….Come, Spirit, renew the hearts of all gathered

for praise and prayer, renew in us the desire for justice and peace, liberation
and life now and every day. Amen.

THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM (9:00) Taggart Jonathon Marshall (b. 1/11/08)
Son of Cory and Anne Marshall, grandson of John and Sue MacOwan

REMEMBERING OUR BAPTISMS
(As you come forward, remember your baptism and be thankful. May the Holy
Spirit work with you, reminding you that having been born through water
and the Spirit, you may live as faithful disciples of Jesus Christ. Amen.)
