 Children's Ministries
Our mission at First United Methodist Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ. Our goal in Children’s Ministries is to help children on their faith journey. We believe that children are special persons of dignity and worth and are a valuable part of our congregation. Church School for children ages 2 through 5th grade meets during the 9:00 hour and we use Cokesbury’s “Exploring Faith” curriculum. On Wednesdays from 6:00-7:00 P.M. in the Activity Center we offer Faith Safari for preschoolers through 4th graders. Kids, join the journey – it’s a spiritual adventure!
Vacation Bible School usually takes place the 3rd week in June. Other activities and special events are scheduled throughout the year. For more information contact Shari Bittles at 474-6405
Vacation Bible School 2007
Below is the latest update of children's activities.
Sunday
School:
Children ages 2 through 4th grade meet in
assigned classrooms during the Sunday School hour.
Classroom assignments are posted throughout the church.
The goal of Sunday School is to guide children on their
faith journey. We use Cokesbury’s curriculum from
September through May. During the Fall Quarter, the 3rd
Grade class uses the curriculum Learning to Use My
Bible. At the end of their studies, all the 3rd
Grade students receive their own Bibles. During the
summer months, all age groups are combined and a variety
of resources are used for a fun learning experience.
Worship
Express:
This is an exciting opportunity as the children learn
about worship in their own special setting. Children
ages 4 through 4th Grade may join us after
the Children’s Time during the 10:30 am Worship service
in Room 216.
Faith
Safari:
Faith Safari is a midweek program that meets on
Wednesday nights from 6:00 – 7:00 PM. Children ages 2
through 4th Grade are encouraged to join us
for this spiritual journey. We learn about different
faith based topics each month, (but it is not necessary
to be there every week!) We hear stories, play games,
create art projects, sing songs, learn about being
children of God, and so much more.
Musical Opportunities:
Sonshine Kids:
If you like to sing and act, then this is the group for
you. Children in Kindergarten through 6th
Grade are able to join Sonshine Kids and they meet on
Wednesday afternoons from 4:30 – 5:30 PM.
Sunday
School Singers:
These singers meet every Sunday at the beginning of the
9:00 am Sunday School hour and includes Preschool
through Kindergarten classes.
Children Fellowship Events:
There are many opportunities for children to enjoy
fellowship throughout the year. We hold a Spring
Celebration in April, a Harvest Celebration in the Fall,
and an Advent/Christmas Celebration in December, and
other events throughout the Christian seasons.
Missions:
The Children’s Ministries of FUMC supports, Operation
Classroom, a United Methodist Mission that provides
school supplies and health supplies to children in need
in Liberia and Sierra Leone, Africa. During the
Christmas season, the children support LUM Jubilee and
provide the “Mitten Tree”. WE also support Heifer
Project International during Faith Safari and a local
mission during Vacation Bible School.
