MUSIC MINISTRIES AT FIRST CHURCH
Director
Ellen Wilson

I Peter 4:10 “Serve one another with whatever gift each of you has received."

The mission of Music Ministry, First United Methodist Church, is to glorify God through music.

The First United Methodist Church offers exciting opportunities to glorify our Lord in worship. We seek to provide an energizing, fun, and spiritual environment to rehearse and sing or play music for the Lord’s work. We pray that this ministry helps you grow on your faith journey.
Musical groups at First United Methodist Church include Chancel Choir, Vocal Ensembles, Song Leaders, Praise Band, Brass Ensemble, Woodwind Ensemble, Hand Bell/Chime Choirs, Youth Music, Sonshine Kids, and Sunday School Singers. RAINBOW RINGERS (elementary through adult)

The Rainbow Ringers is a beginning group of youth and adults who are learning the joy of ringing hand chimes and hand bells. This group meets from 3:45-4:30pm Wednesday afternoons from August through early May. The Rainbow Ringers play for both worship services every other month. If you are interested in learning to ring, please contact Ellen Wilson at 765-743-1285.

ALDERSGATE  HAND BELL CHOIR (junior high through adult - some experience required)

The Aldersgate Hand bell Choir is an advanced ensemble who rings the Lord’s praises. The choir rehearses weekly on Wednesday evenings from 6:00-7:00pm from September through May and plays once a month during both services. This choir incorporates a variety of hand bell techniques in its repertoire. A working realization of Paul’s letter to the Corinthians in 1 Corinthians 12 is evidenced: “The way God designed our bodies is a model for understanding our lives together as a church: every part dependent on every other part….” A commitment to regularly attending rehearsals and performances is a must. Also, a reading knowledge of music notation is extremely beneficial. Please contact Ellen Wilson at 765-7431285 if you are interested in ringing bells.

THE CHANCEL CHOIR is committed to glorifying the Lord through the ministry of singing following Paul’s instructions in Ephesians 5 to “…be filled with the Spirit, as you sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, singing and making melody to the Lord in your hearts, giving thanks to God the Father at all times and for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” This group of singers from a diversity of backgrounds enjoys sharing the common bonds of music and the Christian faith while developing close relationships within the ensemble. Time is set aside at each rehearsal for devotions and to share joys, concerns, and prayer. The Chancel Choir is open to all ages including high school, college, and adults. The choir members sing a variety of choral music that includes traditional and contemporary anthems, spirituals and gospel music, and choral anthems and cantatas with instruments. The choir season begins in late August and continues through the end of May. Rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings from 7:15-8:45pm. If you enjoy singing, please come and join this wonderful group of dedicated Christian musicians.

PRAISE BAND (all ages – some experience required)
The Praise Band is an energetic group of musicians committed to living out Psalm 150: “Praise him with trumpet sound; praise him with lute and harp! Praise him with tambourine and dance; praise him with strings and pipe! Praise him with clanging cymbals; praise him with loud clashing cymbals! Let everything that breathes praise the LORD! Praise the LORD! Currently, the band plays for both worship services one Sunday a month. The music includes contemporary praise songs, choruses, and interesting instrumental arrangements of hymns. “The Praise Band rehearses every Wednesday evening from 7 – 8pm in the Christian Life Center.” If you play an instrument and would like to be a part of this dynamic ensemble, please contact Eric Barker at 463-2787, Angie Blessing at 743-3895, or Ellen Wilson at 743-1285.

SUNDAY SCHOOL SINGERS (preschool and kindergarten)
The Sunday School Singers meet during the 9:00am church school time from September through May. This delightful choir usually sings once a month during the 9:00am Sunday worship service from September through May. Lacy Anderson is the director of these young singers.

SONSHINE KIDS (grades 1 – 5)
An exciting choir for children, the Sonshine Kids sing about once a month during 10:30am worship from September through May. They meet every Wednesday afternoon from 4:30pm to 5:30pm from September through May. Amanda Rowe is the director.

LITURGICAL DANCE
This area of Worship Arts is in need of leadership and participants and is used occasionally in worship.

INSTRUMENTAL ENSEMBLES
Instrumentalists are encouraged to participate in small ensembles as duets, trios, quartets, quintets, etc. If you are interested in using your talents in this area, contact Ellen Wilson 743-1285 with details of your instrument and level of ability.

SOLOIST OPPORTUNITIES
Opportunities are available to those who wish to present solos to the congregation during worship. Scheduling is made through the Music Ministries office. Contact Ellen Wilson 743-1285.
