Meetings every 2nd Tuesday 7 P M in Room 209 in The First United Methodist Church, West Lafayette, Indiana. We are a rare Church Based American Legion Post, committed to serving God, Veterans, The Nation, State and Community. We provide a Smoke and Alcohol free meeting place. Where war time veterans can find ways to continue serving their country! We support the local and national efforts to preserve veteran’s benefits and offer help to veterans in need. Post 38 was started in 1992 and chartered as First United Methodist Church Post 38. The charter hangs in room 209 of the educational wing. The Post has many members of First Church on its rolls. Membership is open to any eligible veteran. The idea for Post 38 originated with Rev. George Dinwiddie a retired Methodist minister, former First Church member and a WW2 Chaplin. George believed there is a need for a Legion Post that is not supported by a restaurant or bar that concentrates on the many beneficial projects sponsored by the Legion at the local, State and National levels. Post 38 Projects include: Active Participation in the American Legion Oratorical Contest, for high school students, which offers scholarships to the winners of various local, state and national contests. The Post is proud of its 4 State Contest winners and 1 National winner. Post 38 invites any interested high school student to let us be their sponsor for the next contest. Call Post member Ted Springer at 765-430-9220 for more on this. We also sponsor and support: Delegates to Boy's and Girl's State The School Award Medal Program: Klondike Middle School.
