On November 11, 2024, the Northwest District of the Indiana United Methodist Church was graced with three visits by our new episcopal leader, Bishop Tracy S. Malone, to various parts of the district. Her visit to the Greater Lafayette area was hosted by the Wesley Foundation in their interim location at the Purdue Baptist Foundation building.

The gathering was attended by Purdue Wesley Foundation students, Discipleship Korean UMC college ministry members, and local area United Methodist laity and clergy. After a delicious meal of sushi and other specialties from Sushi Don’s restaurant, Bishop Malone offered a worship meditation in which she shared her leadership goals for Indiana for the next four years.

Bishop Malone Strategic Plan

She emphasized four areas to concentrate upon: Discipleship, Covenant, Connection, and Leadership. Bishop Tracy explained how these four principles are foundational to our Wesleyan heritage and they give us direction toward our way forward, even in difficult times.

First Church is grateful for Bishop Malone’s wise guidance and we look forward to partnering with her, our conference teams, and our surrounding sibling churches as we seek to live out our mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

Blessings,

Pastor Duane Carlisle
