Following our Consecration Sunday lunch on October 20, 2024, Angie Delworth, member of the Foundation Board, announced this year’s Foundation Scholarship recipients. Among them was Yoonie Lee, a Master of Divinity student, who received the Robert E. Straszheim Award for a second year, which supports Protestant students training for full-time Christian work. Angie also congratulated the following Purdue University students on receiving the D.H. Patterson Scholarship:

  • David Claudy, studying Selling and Sales Management, is involved in musical activities at the Wesley Foundation and a member of the Purdue Musical Organization.
  • Natalee Keller, studying Aquatic Science, is active at the Wesley Foundation, including Winterization, and has participated in Wabash River cleanup efforts.
  • Peyton O’Brien, studying Computer Science, is a key member of First Church’s AV ministry and active at the Wesley Foundation.

Carl Griffin, FUMC Foundation Board President, provided an encouraging financial summary, noting an average annual growth of 8.51% over the past decade and an impressive 29% growth in the last year. Our holdings are now at slightly over $4.9M. In 2023, the Foundation disbursed over $356,000 for vital church initiatives, including new furnaces and renovations. Additionally, $31,000 has already been allocated in 2024 for scholarships, parking lot sealcoating, and new Narthex furniture.

As the meeting wrapped up, Carl invited members to consider including the Foundation in their legacy planning, emphasizing the ongoing need for support to further the church’s mission. For more information on how to get involved, please visit our website at www.fumcwl.org/foundation/.

Consecration Sunday was a powerful reminder of how far we’ve come as a congregation and how bright the future is for our church and ministries. We look forward to continuing this journey of faith, service, and growth!
