Serving God’s people, both here in our own community and beyond, is at the heart of First United Methodist Church. Our service programs contribute to solving local issues and global challenges. Join us in making a difference.

Food Security and Community Care

FUMC supports several organizations working to overcome food insecurity and support local families in their struggles. We work with Lafayette Urban MinistryFood Finders Food Bank and Family Promise of Greater Lafayette.

We buy and package food for 20+ Edgelea School children to take home on Fridays. We support the Tippecanoe United Food Pantry three times a year with volunteers and food to feed 70+ people weekly.

Our programs also address community needs. The Klondike Afterschool program is a safe and nurturing afterschool club.

Campus Connection

First Church is a foundational partner of Wesley Foundation at Purdue. With 60,000 students on campus, Wesley Foundation provides a spiritual home for students from across the United States and around the world. We also serve the broader Purdue community by offering special programming for new students and international scholars.

Social Justice

FUMC is a Reconciling Congregation committed to welcoming people regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, race, ability, bank balance, or background. Our service programs seek to support diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Each October, we host We’re Out, our annual LGBTQ+ pride event. This celebration brings the community together with local resources, food, games, music, and meaningful opportunities for connection and fellowship.

Klondike Kids Club

Klondike Kids Club is a safe and nurturing after school homework club. This is collaboration between FUMC, Klondike Elementary School and Point West Mobile Home Community. Participating volunteers provide tutoring in reading, language arts, and math for children for whom English is a second language.

We All Belong Greater Lafayette

FUMC is proud to partner with We All Belong Greater Lafayette in its mission to defend democracy and uphold civil rights for all. As a host site for regular meetings, FUMC supports this community-led coalition that rejects Christian Nationalism and works to build a more inclusive and just society. Together, we are fostering collaboration, raising awareness, and standing up for the dignity and freedom of every person in Greater Lafayette.
