Dear Lafayette Faith Community,

I am currently serving as the president of the board for Family Promise of Greater Lafayette.  If you are not familiar with Family Promise, we are the only homeless shelter that serves families while keeping them together as a family unit.  There is a large house behind the Northend Community Center.  It is our shelter, but it looks like a house… purposefully.  While there the families receive case management services.  During COVID, we expanded our program with a HUMI grant (Help Us Move In).  We have developed relationships with local landlords and rental companies so that we can now also provide ongoing support after families leave the shelter, providing sufficient time for them to establish and “live into” a stable living arrangement.  The house behind Northend Community Center is so welcoming.  I filled in on a shift recently and, as a little boy returned from school, his mom took him into the kitchen to make him a snack… just like home, not like a big shelter that generally divides families by gender.  It’s an incredible place.

However, we are currently in significant financial need.  Institutions providing grants are giving less than they did pre-COVID and the payments are arriving later.  In addition, once the moratorium on evictions ended, it is becoming increasingly expensive to help families transition into stable housing.

Would you and/or your congregation be willing to make a gift to Family Promise to help us through this very challenging time?

You can mail a contribution to the shelter’s address at 2010 Elmwood Avenue, Lafayette, IN 47904 or give online through our website by clicking on the donor button at https://www.fpglinc.org/
