This summer, First Church will once again serve as the host site for the Purdue CDF Freedom School Program, a transformative six-week, literacy-based summer initiative catering to students in grades K-5. This year’s classes will run from June 15-July 24.

The mornings provide an integrated reading curriculum, while afternoons offer STEM activities, field trips, and social action experiences. Parents are encouraged to be actively involved and engaged throughout the program.

We are proud that the FUMC Foundation is contributing $40,000 to support this year’s program.

Volunteer With Us

Host a Freedom School Servant Leader This Summer

We are seeking host homes for four female Freedom School Servant Leader Interns (SLIs) serving as teachers this summer. This is a meaningful opportunity to support their work and extend hospitality during their time in our community.

Details:

  • 8-week stay beginning Sunday, May 24 (the first week may be a partial stay)
  • Room only; interns will provide their own meals (hosts are welcome, but not expected, to offer meals)
  • No financial compensation is provided to host families
  • One pet-free home is needed due to a cat allergy

If you are interested in hosting or would like more information, please contact Jorge Perez De Jesus at jperezdejesus@fumcwl.org.
