From June 16 to July 25, First United Methodist Church welcomed over 50 K–8 scholars for the third summer of Purdue CDF Freedom School. This six-week program focuses on literacy, leadership, and empowering young minds through reading, hands-on learning, and social action activities.

Highlights from the summer included visits from West Lafayette Mayor Erin Easter and District 25 State Representative Becky Cash, who read with scholars and encouraged them to stay curious. Scholars also led a powerful presentation and rally on National Day of Social Action, using their voices to speak out about the value of public education.

The program wrapped up with a finale on Friday, July 25, where scholars showcased what they had learned as families, staff, and volunteers cheered them on. It was a beautiful reminder of what happens when a community shows up for its children.

Freedom School continues to be a transformative part of our ministry. Led by Dr. Breanya Hogue and made possible through our partnership with the Purdue College of Education, the program leaves a lasting impact on scholars and the community alike.
