Last week, Hurricane Ian caused destruction and devastation to Cuba and the Southeast United States. Recovery efforts have already begun to restore the lives of the people in these communities.

Bishop Trimble is calling for congregations to collect a special offering for The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), in particular to assist with their efforts in Ian’s wake. Congregants can donate directly to UMCOR or through the Indiana Conference with the Advance Special number 901670.

UMCOR is in coordination with disaster response coordinators in the region. ERTs will be working to support emergency relief efforts including chainsaw work, removing debris, and tarping roofs.

There is a chainsaw safety training course coming up Nov. 4-5 at Camp Adventure. (The deadline to register is Oct. 21.) If you are interested in this training or want to learn more about training to obtain an ERT badge, please contact our Disaster Response Co-Coordinator, Rev. John Young, john.young@inumc.org.

More information will be provided as it becomes available for donations and other service opportunities. For now, we offer our prayers and financial donations so that we do not cause a second disaster. If you are interested in making donations or sending a team to serve once we are invited, please contact Rev. Jen Huff, Missions Coordinator, at jennifer.huff@inumc.org
