Purdue OutCats (Outdoor Catholics) is a student-led outdooring ministry for Catholic young adults in the West Lafayette area. Rooted in Catholic teachings, this ministry provides a unique space for young adults to deepen their spiritual connection through outdoor activities, prayer, and service. With membership nearing 100 Purdue students, OutCats has been proudly tending to three local parks and forests, nurturing these outdoor spaces while nurturing friendships of faith.

At the heart of their efforts lies the “Chapel in the Woods” nature area behind First Church. Over the past eight months, OutCats have dedicated themselves to the upkeep and enhancement of this serene space. Their service initiatives have tackled various tasks, from clearing trails of fallen trees, to picking up litter. As of recently, they have taken on the challenge of combating invasive plant species like honeysuckle to ensure the growth of native flora.

Reflecting on the past few months, Dylan Esguerra from the Purdue OutCats shares, “We’re deeply grateful to First Church for providing us with these opportunities of fellowship and service. Looking ahead, we’re filled with hope and enthusiasm for the prospect of future collaboration and partnership.”

First Church echoes a profound sense of gratitude towards Purdue OutCats. Their dedication to the “Chapel in the Woods” and the broader nature area behind our church has not only preserved the beauty of these spaces but has also nurtured a sense of stewardship and reverence for the environment among our congregation. Thank you, Purdue OutCats!
